Holiday Cookbook Roundup!
November 24, 2005 | by Heidi | Filed under
My big Holiday Cookbook Roundup just went up on the NPR site. I tried to include a mix of the best of the season (books you want to be sure to add to your own collection), books that will make great gifts, and a sprinkling of holiday + entertainment titles. Click here to read the whole article:
A few favorites from the favorites list:
Washoku: Recipes From The Japanese Home Kitchen
by Elizabeth Andoh and Leigh BeischThe Cooking of Southwest France
by Paula WolfertFields of Plenty
by Michael Ableman
Also, for those of you who missed it - I did a review of the Silver Spoon Cookbook a couple posts back. Hope you all have a delicious Thanksgiving!
Photograph of the Silver Bell Martini (above) is by Laurie Frankel from Chronicle's Holiday Cocktail Deck.

Hi Heidi,
Thanks for the suggestions and reviews, some of the books listed there are ones that I've been thinking about to get (Simple Soirees, The Best Recipes in the World, etc.) so your article was of a good help.
Hope you're having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
I'll definitely have to check some of those out. Thanks for a great blog, and Happy Thanksiving.
I'm wondering if I make the green bean recipe out of "Woshoku" if I can use tahini for the sesame paste--isn't that what tahini is? This recipe looks so good!
Great info, keep giving us this great blog.
You're right-- who can get enough of Lisa Yockelson?? I have a Sticky Bun Recipe of hers that was published in the Washington Post 8 years ago that got me hooked on her. I have since collected almost all of her cookbooks.
Another book I think is a great gift any time, especially at the holidays if you need to entertain is Martha Stewart's Hors D'Oeuvres Handbook. It's really really fantastic, a picture of everything, great recipes.

Awesome that NPR published that -- congrats!
Talking of cookbooks, I was seduced by yours in Sur la Tabla today whilst spending a voucher. It just looked so darned pretty inside, I couldn't resist buying it. Why people publish cookbooks without photographs beats me. They are so much less appealing.
hey thanks for giving me this site to check out its really fun learning how to bake and make many things. thanks for being such a great friend to me amd being here when i need you the most
