User Agreement + Guidelines
First and foremost:
Treat fellow members as you would like to be treated. Insults, disruptive posts, and lack of respect for others will get you warned, and then removed. I reserve the right to remove any member at any time, for any reason. You agree to take responsibility for what you post, including any legal consequences, costs and liabilities.
Linking to Amazon:
If you link to Amazon please use the 101 Cookbooks dedicated Amazon link. The referrals from Amazon help cover hosting and development fees on this site. Over time it adds up - so this is very important. I reserve the right to go through the board and update links to conform to this standard.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/INSERT ISBN/heidiswanson-20/
So for example if you were linking to Chez Panisse Vegetables, you would locate the book on Amazon, scroll about half-way down the page to look for the ISBN number, in this case the number is: 0060171472. Add this number to the linking URL.
Your final URL in this case would look like: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0060171472/heidiswanson-20/
Avatars:
You have the ability to upload your own unique avatar graphics but keep in mind that unless you have been granted specific permission, you must not use copyrighted/trademarked images as your avatar. You must either own the rights to any uploaded avatar or have permission to use it. Do not upload avatars that infringe on copyrights and trademarks, such as copyrighted photographs, cartoons, illustrations, or logos copied from the Web without the owner's consent. Get out your digital camera, crayons, pencil and paper, and create your own. Animated avatars are discouraged.
Posting Recipes:
This is not a forum for posting copyrighted recipes - recipes that are the intellectual property of others. I know this can get a bit confusing, so I will outline some of the rules in regards to what is legal and what is not when posting recipes.
- - A list of ingredients, or quantity of ingredients is not copyrightable. An author’s original description of the process of making that dish, or their description of how to create the recipe at hand is. Their explanation of why they make something the way they do is copyrightable. Don’t type a recipe from a cookbook verbatim into these forums, if you want to reference a recipe – link to the book on Amazon and let us know what page it is on. If you have your own take on a recipe that started out as someone else’s – post the recipe from your point of view, with your own descriptions, modifications, evolutions, and the like – with reference to the original recipe.
- Many people build on recipes, or look at a range of recipes before settling on their approach. Posting about this type of recipe development is fair game, and not a problem within the context of these forums.
- If a recipe you are posting is inspired by, or based on someone else’s recipe, please acknowledge the source of your inspiration with a mention and a bit of context – it is the right thing to do, and recipes with history and context are always more interesting to read about.
- In the larger editorial scheme of things certain ‘fair-use’ provisions in relation to copyright law might make it legal to quote a small number of recipes from a larger work in the context of a review, or larger write-up. This shouldn’t be done in the forums.
If a recipe posted to these forums is in violation of copyright law, it will be deleted. Repeated violations will get your membership revoked.
You retain the rights to any recipes you post here, with the exception that 101 Cookbooks or assignees will retain the right to publish, reference, reproduce, and otherwise use your recipes once they have been posted if so desired.
POSTING IN ALL CAPS:
Don’t do it.
Overzealous use of smileys:
Again, show some restraint.
Changes to this agreement:
These rules may be modified at any time, for any reason. A current version will be available on the site at all times.
