Favorites List (December 2011) Recipe
A holiday favorites list for December 2011 - links, likes, inspirations, and things I've enjoyed in the past couple of weeks.

I like December more than most months. I like the tinsel, the twinkling lights, hot mugs of tea in the afternoons, and sparkling drinks later on. I like winter flowers, soft sweaters, shortbread (baked a few minutes too long, please), and a dash of Christmas Elvis. I start looking forward to the parade of citrus that isn't far off, and I daydream about places where snowflakes are native. The last few years I tend to get wintertime allergies, effectively balancing out a favorite month with one of my least favorite things :/ Anyhow, I thought I'd post this list on the early side this month, and then follow it up with a few favorite holiday recipes in the coming days. Hope you like:
- Paint pail mittens.
- Meg Ray | Miette
- Rosemary Gin Fizzes
- Tis the season for thank-yous & handwritten letters.
- Erica Tanov fabric + magic.
- Soba noodles this way.
- Travel zipper bags:
- Take a class for fun. For ex: SFAI / Center for the Book / Little Flower School / June Taylor / Love Apple Farms / M+T
- This profile on David Kinch.
- Everyone needs a good pair.
- And a gold heart.
- Keep cozy.
- Chunky hand knits.
- Best-of: cookbooks / photo sites
- Canal House + Food52
- Pumpkin & Goat Cheese Hand-pies
- Watercolor Calendar
- And a great desk series (via Amanda H)
One last thing! I nearly forgot to thank all of you who came out to visit (& have books signed) at the Remodelista Holiday Market. It was wonderful to meet so many of you in person and to have your support. -h
Lead photo: There are three tiny trees, side-by-side, on my block exploding in wintertime flowers. I've been out everyday this week to take pictures of them.

December is my most favorite season of the year, too, with lots of happy events and scrumptious food to enjoy! Thanks for the inspirational monthly list!
great list. To celebrate my birthday I am taking my 6 year old granddaughter and her friend to the "Nutcracker and the Mouse King" ballet this Sunday afternoon, with a tea party at Grandma's house first. The disposable camera idea is perfect for them to record the day. Thank you.
oh heidi, your lists are always grand, but this one is especially fine. loved, especially, the miette link, alder co. (new to me!), and the office shots. went down THAT rabbit hole awhile... happy holidays to you1
Such a fun list. Love it, Heidi. Happy Holidays!
Best Favorites List ever!!!
You rock heidi -You deserve all the support for your wonderful blog
Thank you! I just ate my lunch while reading all your favorites. It was most entertaining and very informative. I've got some great ideas for my Christmas list (how perfect to have a year of beans!).
Is that tree a Stewartia, I wonder. What is the temperature where you live? I just bought (I'm in Northern Massachusetts) one and hope its blooms will look like these next summer. Liv
Dear Heidi, Thanks for sharing a little bit of your life with us. I love your lists, your recipes and the pictures you take. You inspire me in so many ways! xo, Aline
Just discovered 10 new cookbooks I have to have (and now I think I need a whole new room in my house just for cookbooks) and I think after reading this my inbox from new site subscriptions is going to be exploding. Thanks Heidi... love all the favs.
I am a huge fan of your "favorites" posts. My only suggestion is that you "target" the links open to a new page so that I don't have to constantly backtrack to return to your page.
You share so much with seemingly effortless grace. I've never been touched by your work, which is clearly "you," without feeling better for it.
Heidi, I saw your book for sale in a garden shop in Brooklyn the other day --- so great! Congratulations! just wanted to say that I think you provide a great service. Every time I need to find a quick, easy, delicious meal based on the random ingredients I have at home and something special from the greenmarket, I go straight to 101cookbooks.
Love your work!!! Such a honor to be in this list! The hand-pies are sending you a hug :)
oh, they are camelias. God i miss california some days...
Yes I love cooking a lot
Great List. The holidays create so many wonderful memories with great foods and recipes. My mother would make us crepes every year.
Great list! Thanks for sharing!
Aren't those paint pail mittens whimsical? I've already made one pair as a holiday gift since the tutorial went up!
Isn't Canal House magical? The thought of those books makes me smile.
