Gelato Siciliano

July 9, 2003    |   Comment

From my own long running quest to find an authentic gelato recipe that works. I am shooting for a great vanilla gelato base that I can drizzle melted chocolate into for a real-deal stracciatella (chocolate chip gelato).

The verdict: I screwed this up. I didn't let my ice-cream maker freeze up long enough after the red raspberry gelato, AND I didn't let the 'custard' cool off enough before I put it into the ice-cream maker to freeze. I knew better, and I still jumped the gun. Note to self: don't start making gelato at 10 p.m. at night.

In the end this was an interesting chocolate chip ice-milk of sorts, tasty, but not what I was after. Stay tuned for another try tomorrow. I am determined to make this work. If I make it work, I will post the recipe here.

Green Apple Books sucked me in today and I ended up with three new cookbooks:

-The Jimtown Store Cookbook
-Lulu's Provencal Table
-Block Parties and Poker Nights

Although I love California, I jump at nearly every chance to visit new places. Often times I'll mention a new destination here and you'll generously offer insights and suggestions. Telling me the places I should seek out. It's great. Here's a list of travel-related posts.
