Menu for Hope III Fundraiser

Menu for Hope III Fundraiser

December 10, 2006 | by Heidi | Filed under

This time last year food bloggers banded together to raise close to $20,000 for UNICEF - (much more than anybody expected!). Prior to that (our first year) we were able to raise a substantial sum to help tsunami victims in Southeast Asia.

This year the United Nation's World Food Programme will be our recipient. Working in conjunction with an organization that has been feeding the hungry since 1962 is a way for those of us who write about, photograph, and explore food and food culture (and those of you who read us!) to give back in a way that is meaningful and has impact.

To entice you into donating we've collectively pulled together a huge list of amazing gifts/prizes to raffle off. Each $10 will give the donor one virtual raffle ticket for a prize of their choice. You can specify your desired prize in the comment area of the donation form. Click here to see the full list of prizes, or here to see the regional round-up of prizes (West Coast), my prizes are outlined below.

- one (non-transferable) pass to the exclusive TASTE3 conference this May in Napa, California (value $2350)
- a one hour private photography lesson (in SF) and/or a signed copy of my new cookbook when it comes out in March, Super Natural Cooking (if you can't get to SF for the lesson)
- The Pangea Organics product line (one of each type of product)

The prizes in more detail:

1. TASTE3 Full Conference Pass (value $2350)
The TASTE3 conference (www.taste3.com) is a food and wine event unlike any other - in both scope and format. It is an interdisciplinary conference held annually and it brings together roughly forty of the most compelling writers, thinkers, chefs, winemakers, journalists, scientists, researchers, artisans, and executives to deliver concise, passionate twenty minute presentations to the intimate crowd (of just 350 people). Last year's attendees and speakers included Thomas Keller, Harold McGee, Paula Wolfert, Diana Kennedy, Katrina Markoff, Homaro Cantu, Dan Barber, Drew Nieporent, Paul Draper...the list of fantastic people goes on and on. This year's program is shaping up to be just as compelling. If you win this prize you will receive one full (non-transferable) pass to the TASTE3 conference presented by Robert Mondavi Winery, May 6-9, 2007 at COPIA in Napa, California (this doesn't include transportation to the event or lodging). Raffle code = UW08

2. Pangea Organics Product Line:
Pangea Organics is a fantastic line of bodycare products made from all natural, organic ingredients. No petrochemicals, GMOs, or synthetic ingredients. They use 100% compostable, seeded packaging which means you can soak the fiber packaging in water and then plant it in soil. The facial care products and massage & body oils will all grow edible Genovese Sweet Basil (yes, you can cook with it!). How cool is that? If you win this prize you will get the following Pangea products: Raffle code = UW09

Egyptian Calendula & Blood Orange Facial Cleanser
Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry Facial Mask
Malagasy Ylang Ylang & Linden Flower Facial Cleanser
Italian Green Mandarin with Sweet Lime Facial Toner
Pyrenees Lavender with Cardamom Massage & Body Oil
Indian Lemongrass with Rosemary Shower Gel
Chilean Red Clover with Geranium & Grapefruit Hand & Body Lotion
Malagasy Cinnamon Cassia with Cloves, Egyptian Basil & Mint Bar Soaps

3. Photography Lesson & Signed Cookook:
OR, how about a one hour private photography lesson (San Francisco)? If you aren't local (and can't get to San Francisco) in the next year or so, I'll throw in a signed copy of my new cookbook (it is coming out in March) instead. Raffle code = UW10

Here's what you should do...
1. Go to the donation page at http://www.firstgiving.com/menuforhopeIII

2. Make a donation, each $10 will give you one raffle ticket toward a prize of your choice. Please specify which prize or prizes you'd like in the 'Personal Message' section in the donation form when confirming your donation. Do tell us how many tickets per prize, and please use the prize code -for example, a donation of $50 can be 2 tickets for UW01 and 3 for UW02.

3. If your company matches your charity donation, please remember to check the box and fill in the information so we could claim the corporate match.

4. Please also check the box to allow us to see your email address so that we could contact you in case you win. Your email address will not be shared with anyone.

5. Check back on Chez Pim on January 15 when we announce the result of the raffle.

The codes for the above prizes are as follows:
TASTE3 Full Conference Pass (value $2350) = UW08
Pangea Organics Product Line: = UW09
Photography Lesson with Heidi Swanson or signed Cookbook = UW10

Is it hard being a goddess? Do goddesses ever take days off and just roam around as mortals?

It is a pleasure and an inspiration to know you. Your prizes look too hard to choose from!

Heidi, I'm hard pressed to decide between the photo lesson and the ticket to Taste# with all my favorite food gurus. You're too generous for words.

I think the goddess is having a few weeks off right now - and she deserves it!

I know you aren't around Heidi, but I had to stop by and thank you anyway.

Thanks to everyone else! It's a really impressive lineup of prizes this year, and Sam thanks again for stepping up to rep us West coasters.

Cook, I'm not sure if my book will be available in Israel....I'll look into where it will be distributed and post about it on the site at some point.

And I promise to post some pics from my latest adventure soon. I'm not sure goddess is the term that comes to mind ;)
