Julia's Tarte au Citron et aux Amandes Recipe
August 14, 2004
Over the course of the past ten days, two people whose work I admire deeply have passed away.
First Henri Cartier Bresson, artist and photographer, then just over a week later - Julia Child. Both have left a profound impression on me. I think I speak for many when I say we will all mourn their passing and at the same time continue to celebrate their wonderful contributions to our lives.
I will remember Julia because:
-she exuded warmth and friendliness.
-she was unfussy and easy-going.
-she had the spirit of a student as much as that of a teacher.
-she was worldly, well-traveled, and always open to new ideas.
-if she could manage, she believed you could too.
-she lived and loved California.
I will remember Henri Cartier Bresson because:
-with his small camera he was able to capture 'living' -- as the verb that it is.
Today I picked a beautiful, bright, delicious summery Lemon and Almond Tart recipe from Mastering the Art of French Cooking to make in celebration of the wonderful and long lives that both Julia and Henri led. May we all be so fortunate.
In some of the early entries on this site I didn't request permission to run the recipe I was writing about from the publisher so it won't appear here. The majority of entries on 101 Cookbooks will have the recipes attached, this just happens to be one of the ones that doesn't.

i was out with your landlord last night and he checked his cell phone/mobile thingydoo. he was then bragging delightedly that he had an email from you about some lemon tarts in the garage refrigerator to which he was free to help himself. i think you should ask for a break on rent...
Hey, you want to get together for some food-related activities sometime soon?
