Great article. I live in Scotland and love to pick up American cookbooks (many from your favoured list)just to get a flavour of the different lifestyle and ideas in those books. They seem so fresh and different over here. I look forward to trying your latest recommendations.
Whoever says beans are boring are completely wrong. Heidi that Rancho Gordo site is very sweet and it is nice to see some of your recipes on there. Storing beans in glass jars and lining them up on a beautiful wooden shelf in the kitchen looks splendid with all the colours that contrast each other so nicely.
Thank you for all the great hints and tips and books and news and markets and...yeah...all the interesting stuff you have to say.
I especially love your photos and your feedback on places when you go somewhere. Your photos have a very honest and nice feel about them that make me want to visit the places you have. (Unlike a lot of the colour filters used for a lot of travel brochures). ^_^
I totally admire what you do...I don't know how you keep up with everything.

Rancho Gordo rocks! I wanted to point that out. Steve, from Rancho Gordo, is on one of my lists and is a real gem of a person!
Thanks for the reviews of the summer cookbooks. I want that Jimtown one and the blueberry one. I just read another review of that one and they loved it. I was in Maine last summer and bought the one about blueberries and lobster rolls - got it autographed too.
Thanks for the reviews and the yummy sounding summer food!

I am going to purchase some of Rancho Gordo's Ancho Chiles and the Swedish Brown Beans (RG's branding and label designs are beautiful, btw). Nice recipe ideas for grilling and smoking, Heidi. I noticed, though, in the article there aren't any bean recipes to be found. My grandma makes a mean butterbean pie...

Enjoyed your article on NPR had to email it to my hubby, an NPR fan. I plan on checking out the Secrets of Salsa cookbook. Thanks for the list, you have such a way talking about food it's inspired me to start cooking again.
